Embroidered Lighthouse on Rocky Shore
A clean coastal hoop with a red-and-white lighthouse, golden beacon rays, layered stonework, turquoise sea bands, and soft foreground wave lines. The palette below keeps the design bright and nautical while giving enough neutrals for believable rock shading.

Suggested DMC Color Palette
Use the deeper colors sparingly for definition, then let the pale linen ground and white thread keep the hoop airy like the reference design.
Stitch Map
- Lighthouse stripes: satin stitch or long-and-short stitch following the diagonal bands. Outline first with 1 strand split stitch to keep the edges clean.
- Lantern room: tiny satin stitches for the yellow glow, back stitch for the black rail, and single straight stitches for the railing posts.
- Light beams: detached straight stitches or running stitch, spaced deliberately so the rays feel airy instead of heavy.
- Rocky shore: split stitch outlines, then directional long-and-short fill inside each facet. Change stitch angle from rock to rock.
- Water bands: rows of stem stitch, back stitch, and short scalloped running stitches. Break the lines where rocks interrupt the sea.
- Foam: loose couching or whipped back stitch in white for the raised crest at the front of the waves.
Thread Count Guide
- 1 strand: black windows, railings, rock cracks, fine outlines, sky dashes.
- 2 strands: most lighthouse fill, water lines, red shadows, medium rock planes.
- 3 strands: bold lower sea bands and the thickest white foam curve, only where extra texture is wanted.
- Blending: combine one strand 451 + one strand 452 for middle rocks; one strand 3809 + one strand 3846 for darker water movement.
Shading, Texture & Finishing Suggestions
Keep the tower crisp
Work the lighthouse before the surrounding rocks so the red-and-white silhouette stays clean. Stitch each stripe as a separate shape, then add the black window marks last.
Build believable rocks
Choose a light source from the upper center. Put DMC 453 and 739 on top planes, 452 in the middle, and 451 or 839 under overhangs and between stones.
Let the sea breathe
Do not fill the ocean solidly. The reference relies on separated horizontal lines, so leave small gaps of fabric between rows to suggest shimmer.
Use controlled contrast
Black is powerful in this design. Reserve DMC 310 for the lantern, windows, and a few essential breaks; use dark brown for most rock outlines.
Soften the sky
Stitch pale gray and white sky marks with 1 strand so the yellow rays remain the brightest detail outside the tower.
Finish cleanly
Press from the back over a towel, then re-hoop with even tension. Trim the back only after checking that wave lines still sit straight.
