Harvest Mandala Sunflowers And Autumn Leaves
A warm autumn hoop built around a circular mandala arrangement: golden sunflower petals, deep seed centers, curling rust leaves, olive greenery, and small harvest accents radiating from the middle. The palette below keeps the design rich and seasonal while leaving enough contrast for every petal, vein, and ring of the mandala to stay readable.
Color story from the design
The image reads as a harvest mandala: sunflower heads and autumn leaves arranged in a balanced circular composition. Use saturated yellows and honey oranges for the flower petals, a dark cocoa center for seed texture, russet and pumpkin tones for leaves, and muted olive greens to stop the palette from becoming too bright.
Stitch map & thread-count guidance
Keep the center crisp and the outer ring airy. Work all repeated motifs in the same order so the mandala stays even: outline first, fill the main shapes, then add veins, knots, and final highlights.
| Design area | Recommended stitches | Strands & notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sunflower petals | Long and short stitch, fishbone stitch, satin stitch for small petals | Use 2 strands for smooth fill. Blend 743 + 742 by alternating stitches; add 744 at the tips. |
| Sunflower centers | French knots, colonial knots, tiny seed stitch | Use 2 strands of 801 with scattered 938 knots. Vary knot size by wrapping once or twice. |
| Autumn leaves | Fishbone stitch, split stitch veins, fly stitch serrations | Use 2 strands for fills, 1 strand for veins. Shade from 922 or 921 into 920 near the base. |
| Mandala circular lines | Stem stitch, whipped backstitch, couching | Use 1–2 strands. Keep tension gentle so the circle does not pucker. |
| Stems and vines | Stem stitch, split backstitch, lazy daisy leaves | Use 730 for dark edges and 734 for lighter leaves. One strand keeps fine curves graceful. |
| Accent dots and seeds | French knots, straight stitches, detached chain | Use 744, 3823, 420, or 938 depending on placement; repeat colors evenly around the circle. |

Fabric, hoop & finishing notes
Natural linen, cotton-linen blend, or warm cream quilting cotton will support the autumn palette best. A 6–8 inch hoop suits the circular mandala layout; choose the larger size if you want more breathing room between leaves and sunflower petals.
Use 2 strands for most filled areas, 1 strand for delicate outlining and veins, and 3 strands only for bold knots or heavy decorative dots. If your fabric is loosely woven, back it with a lightweight stabilizer so satin and long-and-short stitches do not distort the circle.
Before framing, gently steam from the back over a towel. Do not press directly over French knots; cup your hand under the fabric while tightening the hoop to keep raised seed texture intact.
