The palette keeps the bouquet bright and generous while preserving enough brown structure for the basket to feel handmade and dimensional.

Stitch placement guide
Basket body
Use horizontal satin or long straight stitches in DMC 3828, then cross with short vertical stitches in DMC 433. Reserve DMC 898 for small gaps under the rim and where the handle meets the basket.
Basket rim and handle
Work a smooth stem stitch or split stitch line with 2 strands. Add a narrow DMC 3828 highlight along the top edge and a DMC 433 shadow along the lower edge for rounded form.
Large coral flowers
Shade petals with long-and-short stitch: DMC 353 at the outer tips, DMC 352 through the middle, and DMC 350 close to the center or under overlapping petals.
Yellow summer blooms
Use lazy daisy or satin petals in DMC 744 with DMC 742 centers. Add a few DMC 783 French knots to make pollen clusters look rich and sun-warmed.
Pink and violet accents
Use small detached chain stitches in DMC 3687 and DMC 340. Place DMC 333 as single-strand knots or tiny straight stitches only where a center needs depth.
Leaves and filler stems
Use stem stitch for stems in DMC 470. Work leaves with fly stitch or fishbone stitch, blending DMC 3348 on the upper edge and DMC 988 in shaded undersides.
Thread-count guidance
- Fine outlines: 1 strand for small petals, stems, and crisp basket details.
- Main flowers: 2 strands for satin, lazy daisy, and long-and-short petals.
- Basket texture: 2 strands for most woven bands; 3 strands only if the basket should look raised.
- Flower centers: 2 strands for bold French knots; 1 strand for delicate pollen dots.
Blending ideas
- Blend one strand DMC 353 with one strand DMC 352 for soft peach-coral petals.
- Blend DMC 744 with DMC 742 for yellow petals that stay bright without looking flat.
- Blend DMC 3348 with DMC 470 for lively leaf mid-tones; add DMC 988 only at the base.
- Alternate DMC 3828 and DMC 433 across basket bands for a natural woven look.
Shading and texture
- Place the darkest petal shades near flower centers and under overlapping petals.
- Keep the outermost petal tips lighter so the bouquet feels airy and sunlit.
- Use scattered French knots in yellow, violet, and cream to suggest tiny filler flowers.
- Let the basket stitches run in clean rows; the flowers can be loose, but the basket should be structured.
Beginner-friendly workflow
- Transfer the basket, handle, largest blooms, and main stems first.
- Stitch stems and background leaves before filling the large flowers.
- Add the main coral and yellow flowers, then the pink and violet accent blooms.
- Finish with basket weave, flower centers, tiny knots, and final outline touch-ups.
Finishing tip
For a summery, abundant basket, avoid filling every gap with the same stitch. Mix satin petals, lazy daisies, French knots, fly-stitch leaves, and clean woven bands so the bouquet looks full, textured, and handmade without becoming visually heavy.
