DMC palette & stitch guide
Geometric Tribal
A crisp hoop design built from symmetrical diamonds, chevrons, arrow forms, striped side panels, bead-like dots, and a bold central eye. The palette is intentionally restrained: deep garnet red, black-charcoal structure, cool blue-gray accents, and warm natural linen.
Suggested DMC Color Palette
Use the red family as the dominant stitched fill, black for graphic boundaries, blue-gray for small connector dots, and soft neutrals only where a highlight or thread blend is needed.
Stitch Map
| Area | Recommended stitches | Practical notes |
|---|---|---|
| Central eye | Split stitch rings, satin stitch pupil, backstitch separators | Work from the center outward. Keep ring stitches short so the circle stays smooth. |
| Red chevrons | Satin stitch or long-and-short stitch | Stitch each chevron arm in the same direction for a polished woven look. |
| Diamond frame | Stem stitch outline with satin-filled corners | Use 2 strands for edges; add 814 on the lower side for depth. |
| Side bars | Backstitch borders with diagonal seed or straight stitches | Mark diagonals lightly before stitching so the stripe angle remains consistent. |
| Dots and beads | French knots, colonial knots, or padded satin dots | Use 926 with a tiny 927 highlight stitch at the upper-left edge. |
Blending & Shading Ideas
- Red dimension: combine one strand DMC 815 + one strand DMC 814 for darker lower chevrons; switch to 815 + 816 on upper chevrons.
- Graphic black without harshness: use DMC 310 for the pupil and main bars, but 3799 for thin hatching so fine details do not look heavy.
- Blue-gray accents: stitch the knots with 926, then add one tiny straight stitch of 927 to suggest a bead catching light.
- Ivory fabric preservation: leave most pale areas unstitched. Use 3865 only if you need to sharpen the pale ring around the central eye.

Compact Shopping List
Core colors: DMC 815, 814, 816, 310, 3799, 926, 927, and 3865. Optional accents: 729 for a warm gold touch and 869 for a softer brown-black outline on natural linen.
Needle choice: size 7 embroidery needle for 2–3 strands, size 9 for single-strand hatching. A 5- or 6-inch hoop suits the motif scale and helps keep the side elements aligned.
